A society blend of poor, working class, and wealthy townspeople. Meant to bring layers of atmosphere and life to various scenes.

Cratchit

Supporting Lead

The joy-filled, meek and humble finance clerk of Ebenezer Scrooge. Survives on a meager income, but still manages to maintain a generous spirit. Married with one child, Tiny Tim, who suffers from a physical impediment. Tends to be nervous and jittery around Scrooge’s dark personality but is gracious and eager to please.

Scrooge

Lead Character

Elderly version of Ebenezer Scrooge; a cold-hearted miser who despises Christmas. Affected by events in his youth and young adult life, Scrooge seeks to control money to the best of his ability in order to protect his wounded, shriveled heart.  Ironically, money ultimately has control of him and leads him down a path of further loss and bitterness that makes him highly resistant to God’s pursuit of his heart over his lifetime.

Devil

Lead Character

Dramatic Jekyll and Hyde wide-ranging personality with Victorian vibes. Encourages Ebenezer’s descent by feeding him lies, fueling his self-pity. With every new depth Ebenezer’s character plunges to, the Devil increases in authority and influence.

Demons

Supporting Characters

Ghost-like and Victorian in appearance, the demons plague Ebenezer with vices that run generationally in his family. Self pity, alcoholism, rage, depression, adultery and suicidal tendencies are all encouraged by the demons toward an ultimate descent, robbing Ebenezer Scrooge of the life God intended for him. The Demons take pleasure in Scrooge’s pain and mock his misery, but they are no match for the power of the redemptive forces of God.

Waltz Dancers

Supporting Characters

Select adult or teen ensemble members representing a blend of townspeople meant to serve as a backdrop for an introduction of characters as well as the plot in the title song- So Twisted (Toy Soldiers).

Mary

Supporting Lead

The love of Ebenezer Scrooge’s life from childhood. Mary is smitten with Ebenezer and waits for him to return from university to reconnect and reignite their love. After a short courtship, they are married and Mary is full of hope for the future only to have her dreams dashed by the brokenness of Ebenezer’s past. When the weight of unresolved trauma pulls Ebenezer into cycles of depression and alcoholism, he commits the ultimate betrayal of convenience in the arms of Mary’s best friend. The act of treachery is too much even for Mary’s generous spirit, and, in total despair, she leaves him.

head angel

Supporting Lead 

Commander of the angelic unit deployed on behalf of Ebenezer Scrooge. The Head Angel is tasked with management of both the assignment and the team of angels under his command. Amidst this unit is a rookie angel who tests the limits of the Head Angel’s patience and leadership. It is the Head Angel’s wisdom that propels both the Trainee Angel and Scrooge to humility and breakthrough. Finally, the Head Angel engages his divine supernatural strength when the time is right.

Trainee Angel

Lead Character

Rookie angel of the unit deployed on behalf of Ebenezer Scrooge. Highly energetic and full of zeal, the Trainee Angel is anxious to fulfill the assignment and save Scrooge from himself. Never without a trunk full of ideas, the Trainee Angel becomes weary of the waiting, but learns a valuable lesson regarding the powerful authority in the will of mankind that God has bestowed as a gift. Meanwhile, his maverick character gets him and his angel cohorts into some trouble, much to the levity of the live audience.

Stats Angel

Supporting Character

The Head Angel’s right hand man, Stats is straight-laced, all facts, highly disciplined, strictly by the rules and the opposite of the Trainee Angel’s zany character. His heart and sense of duty cut through his somewhat nerdy personality, and on the battlefield he is reliable and fierce.

The Voice Angel

Supporting Character

Powerful female angel role. Often tags teams with Stats in keeping the record straight with the Trainee, but with more sass. Multiple vocal solos.

Angels

Supporting Characters

The power-packed trio that completes the angel team assigned to Scrooge. Ready on command, highly trained, highly disciplined, but game for fun at the encouragement of the Trainee. 

Must be physically fit, muscular preferred, taller stature preferred, advanced agility, and intermediate to advanced vocals required. Intermediate to advanced acting skills. Some dance.


Poor Child

Supporting Character

Destitute and homeless child left to beg for help from passersby in the dead of winter in the industrial quarter of London, England. Soloist in ‘Another Day in Paradise’. The Poor Child’s innocence and generous love, as she offers Scrooge a rose on Christmas Day in ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’, is also symbolic of Christ’s unending, redemptive love for us.

ebby

Supporting Lead

Ebenezer Scrooge as a child. Having experienced extreme loss in the death of his mother, Ebby turns to his father for comfort but is neglected and then physically and emotionally abused. As a result of this loss and neglect, Ebby’s societal status changes and he begins to be bullied by the boys at school. At this time, one faithful friend emerges to temporarily fill the void in Ebby’s heart. Mary’s love is enough to save him for the time being and sets the stage for the happiest years of his life.

Scrooge’s Father (Franklin)

Supporting Lead

Devastated by the loss of his wife, Mr. Scrooge struggles to recover. The only respite from the pain comes from drowning his sorrows in bottles of alcohol which leaves him struggling financially, angry and abusive toward his son. Regret later plagues him and he spends his latter years seeking forgiveness from Ebenezer.

Scrooge’s Mother (Carol)

Supporting Character

The spark that kept joy and laughter alive in the Scrooge household, Mrs. Scrooge was adored by her husband and son. Her untimely death struck their home like a bolt of lightning and opened wounds of trauma that took years to heal.

Young Mary

Supporting Lead

Ebby’s one childhood friend. Mary comes to Ebby’s rescue in his most vulnerable season and nurtures in him the love and joy lost with the death of his mother. Mary is fun, full of life, and beautiful. Organically their friendship grows and innocently turns to romance.

Ebenezer

Lead Character

Ebenezer Scrooge as a young man through adulthood and the descent that led him to become the twisted man simply known as Scrooge. Ebenezer returns from University with his life laid out ahead of him. His marriage, his career and future were as clear as day and within reach. Seemingly the dark days of childhood trauma were far behind him; however, they had simply been buried and were never truly dealt with. As a result, any difficulty in life had the potential to trigger unhealthy responses that would lead to bad choices. And the choices compounded leading down a generational path designed to steal, kill and destroy. Ebenezer’s heart became as hardened and impenetrable as a vault. It would take supernatural strategy and divine intervention to unlock him.

Marley

Supporting Character

Jacob Marley is the confident and exuberant best friend and eventual business partner of Ebenezer Scrooge. Having met at university, Marley is Ebenezer’s wingman and builds up his confidence to take his relationship with Mary to the next level.

Mary’s Friend

Supporting Character

Friends from youth, Mary and her friend are giddy with excitement to enter into society and eventually love and marriage. Mary’s friend is by Mary’s side on her wedding day as her Maid of Honor, but soon after, her loyalty wanes. When an unknown tragedy strikes Mary’s Friend, she runs to Ebenezer for help and in turn finds him in a vulnerable state. Both weak in conviction and disarmed by familiarity, they cross the line of fidelity and forever change the trajectory of their lives.

Preacher

Supporting Lead

A peer of Ebenezer’s, the Preacher is a constant in Scrooge’s life. From graduating university and seminary respectively, to presiding over the marriage of Ebenezer and Mary, to reaching out at every tragic lowpoint, the Preacher is compelled to minister and intercede on Scrooge’s behalf without sway or discouragement. It is the Preacher’s constant intercessory prayer that engages and reengages the power of God toward Scrooge until he finally surrenders his heart.

Smooth Criminal Dancers

Supporting Characters

Set in a smoky lounge, ‘Smooth Criminal’ dancers evoke a cool, jazz style environment infused with classic Michael Jackson moves. 

Advanced dance and facial animation/ acting required.


Mad World Dancers

Supporting Characters

Haunting, ethereal wisp-like movements define this lyrical dance accompanying a period of disillusionment for Ebenezer in ‘Mad World’. The dance evokes ghost-like memories, and digs up unresolved pain and regret. Highly emotive.

Angel Dancers

Supporting Characters

Powerful, explosive and fluid, the Angel Dancers are a ballet trio emphasizing a moment of direct encounter between Scrooge and the revelation power of God’s love in ‘Silent Running’. Intense and then suddenly peaceful. 

Advanced ballet skills required.


Cratchit’s Wife

Supporting Character

Humble and warm, she joins Cratchit at the end of the show and encourages Scrooge to join them for Christmas service despite his previous disregard toward their plight.

Intermediate acting skills required.


Tiny Tim

Supporting Character

Cratchit’s crippled young son. Joyful and hopeful despite his circumstances. Walks with a crutch.
